Thrill: The High Sensation Seeking Highly Sensitive Person release

Sept. 10th, 2016 – The release of Thrill: The High Thrill coverSensation Seeking Highly Sensitive Person.

With the release of Thrill, I offer a great new resource for all high sensation seeking highly sensitive people and highly sensitive people to come to a deeper understanding of ourselves.   Thrill is the first book of its kind to explore the sensitive sensation seeker in depth.  The origins of the book date back to the qualitative research I conducted for my doctoral dissertation where I encountered a number of people who seemed to be describing certain aspects that did not entirely sound like sensory processing sensitivity.  I recognized these aspects in myself as well and knew I wanted to explore this area more deeply in the future.

My previous book Thrive: The Highly Sensitive Person and Career looked at the crucial area of work and the role our sensitivity plays in influencing and directing our choices and perspectives in career choice and ultimate experience of life.  I included a short chapter in Thrive on sensitive sensation seekers and, now with Thrill, open that discussion up fully and completely.  I think all HSPs and HSS/HSPs (the acronyms commonly used to denote highly sensitive people and high sensation seeking highly sensitive people, respectively) will find numerous points to connect with in Thrill because, in the end, we are not so very different.  Though we sensitive sensation seekers may be more susceptible to boredom, need new and novel stimulation with disinhibition possibly serving as an activating mechanism we share all of the same concerns as HSPs regarding the experience of empathy, overstimulation in certain circumstances and the need to find ways of being where we feel fully expressed.  Those that know my blog know I am deeply against homogenization of such a diverse and beautiful group by which I am referring to highly sensitive people!

In Thrill I celebrate our diversity  and strength by including our collective voices throughout the book, plus I allow the sensitive sensation seekers in the study to speak for themselves through their own narratives in the last chapter.  Several of the narratives are visceral and bring home the reality that life may never be easy or clear for us but the possibility always exists for transcendence.  Thrill, in the end, is a book aimed at raising consciousness for all of us.  The more self-aware we are the better we can contextualize the struggles we all feel and experience.
